According to Brent Evans’ book Boerne, the town was originally Börne, but printers added an “e” after the umlaut because their presses couldn’t print it.

And the “Bernie” pronunciation? It’s apparently just an anglicization that stuck. So, should it really be The Börne Life? 😁
