Boerne has some seriously wild stories hiding in its history. The town reportedly beat the Wright Brothers to flight by 38 years, had a rare book sitting unnoticed in Boerne High School, and even played a role in developing a bizarre WWII weapon made from actual bats.

Then there’s the 1867 story of a sleeping deacon who survived an unexpected disaster and a polo match that may have helped Boerne claim an early place in American polo history. How many of these did you already know?

Indulge Wine Bar has a full September calendar with live music, Mahjong tournaments, classes, and plenty of reasons to plan a night out. Upcoming dates include live music on September 11 and 25, plus Mahjong events throughout the month.

Even without an event, Indulge is a great spot for handcrafted cocktails, wine, tapas, and patio time at 21 Truss Drive in Boerne.

The Boerne Police Department has dedicated a permanent bronze monument to K-9 Chico, who died in the line of duty in April 2025. The memorial was unveiled on September 1 during a ceremony recognizing Chico’s service and the bond he shared with his handler, Sgt. Pedro Moncada.

The monument also celebrates the important role police K-9s play in protecting the community. A local Girl Scout troop also helped honor Chico by creating a free pet microchip reader station outside the police station.

Longevity Pilates is celebrating its second anniversary in Boerne with a brand-new Cadillac room, giving members even more ways to experience Pilates. The family-owned studio is opening its doors for free Reformer, Mat, and Cadillac classes on September 19 from 9–11:30 AM.

Whether you’re new to Pilates or already a regular, it’s a great chance to try a class and check out the new space at 1100 N. Main St., Suite 106. Space is limited, so reservations are encouraged.

Port Aransas hits a little differently once the summer crowds start heading home. Late August brings warm water, quieter beaches, and a much more relaxed pace, making it a great time for a coastal getaway.

A recent trip included a stay at Port Royal Ocean Resort, stops for local ice cream, and of course, a photo op with the giant shark statue. With families back in school, the beach can feel almost like your own.
