The Boerne Book Festival is back this fall — and it’s moving to the Patrick Heath Public Library grounds for 2025!

This year’s festival will feature author talks, workshops, and book signings inside the library, while vendors and family activities fill the outdoor space behind it. The new setup makes for a smoother experience (plus better parking).

Special guests include Bryan Burrough, Norma Cantú, Stephen Harrigan, Kazu Kibuishi, and more. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 4, and get ready for a full day celebrating books and the people who love them.

NEW SCULPTURE INSTALLED NEXT TO THE BOERNE MURAL 🎨🌵

There’s a new addition to Main Street you don’t want to miss! Texas Treasures Co. has launched their new Young Artist Program, and the first installation is officially in place.

The piece, called Lucky Blooms, was created by local high school senior Alicia Mendoza, who grew up on her family ranch in Bergheim. Standing eight feet tall and made from welded horseshoes, the cactus sculpture is crowned with delicate steel flowers — a striking balance of craftsmanship, creativity, and patience.

You can find Lucky Blooms right next to the Boerne mural on South Main Street. It’s the first of what Texas Treasures Co. hopes will be many opportunities to highlight the next generation of Hill Country artists. So go take your picture with the new sculpture!

Joshua Creek Ranch is also hosting a full slate of Texas Driven Pheasant & Mallard Shoots this fall, with dates running October through January. The tradition, the setting, and the action in the field make it one of the premier hunting experiences in Texas.

SHORT STOP SET TO GET NEW CANOPY ⛽

Remember back in March when we had some crazy winds that caused all sorts of damage? The Short Stop on North Main took a big hit and the canopy was thrown to the ground.

Fast forward 6 months, and according to a new TDLR filing, they're finally set to have it replaced. Start date is 9/30, with target completion date 10/10.

These filings are always subject to change. But we, for one, are excited to get gas in the shade once again!

LOST DAYCARE PAYMENT REUNITED THANKS TO LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER’S HONESTY ♥️

You may recognize Shawn Davis from our recent announcement about Ranch Hand Rover — the new local business that accompanies you to inspect vehicles before you buy.

Friday night, we witnessed a heartwarming story unfold on the Boerne Breaking News Facebook Group. And after a minute we realized it involved our new partner!

Shawn found an envelope full of cash and a money order at the Valero on Hwy 46. The money was meant for daycare tuition, and instead of pocketing it, he immediately posted in the Boerne Breaking News group, trying to track down the owner.

It didn’t take long, and it was back in the right hands. Rhonda Retzloff, owner of Alene’s Boutique on Main Street and Lil Explorers School of Boerne, met Shawn to reclaim the envelope. She shared her gratitude online, writing: “Thank you so much for returning the money! Your honesty is amazing!! We need more of this in the world right now!”

Now, this isn’t technically an ad… but if you’re looking for someone honest to have your back when buying a car, you probably want to do business with this young man. Learn more at ranchhandrover.com.

This is not an advertisement. Not totally anyway. It’s a great story that happens to be linked to one of our new advertisers. So there’s full disclosure. 😀

BOERNE HISTORY

First, we want to mention - in case we didn’t ever answer the question from last week - Max Besler’s historic bar can be seen upstairs at The Richter on Main Street!

For today’s historical bit, we have an interesting story about the first church ever built in Boerne, which is still standing. During construction of the original St. Peter the Apostle’s building, Deacon Fleury fell asleep on the scaffolding (which was out of the norm, because he usually slept on his pallet). While he slept, Indians raided the church and shot arrows into the blanket that covered his bed.

Since he was up on the scaffolding, he was spared and he finished the little church. But his horse was in the line of the fire and died.
