STEP BACK INTO A BOERNE NIGHT OUT FROM 1891

This remarkable photo captures the inside of Max Beseler's Metropolitan Saloon in 1891, giving us a rare glimpse of the people who helped shape early Boerne. From local businessmen to the bartender and saloon owners, the image freezes a moment in time more than 135 years ago.

Even more incredible, the handcrafted cherry wood bar featured in the photo still exists today. Built around 1869, it survived Prohibition, served as an ice cream counter, changed locations over the decades, and now welcomes visitors at Richter Tavern on Main Street—a living piece of Boerne history that's still serving drinks today.
