IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

Good morning, Boerne. This is The Boerne Life, the newsletter who wants to let you know that the answer to yesterday’s trivia question is FALSE. While the building featured was an old train station, it was moved in from Encinal, which is near Laredo. You can learn the history of that here.

Okay, here’s what we have for you:

  • Everything you could ever want to know about attending the Kendall County Fair

  • Another shop on Main is closing for retirement

  • Buc-ee’s concerns heard and addressed

  • Klein Smokehaus bacon is raising eyebrows at H-E-B

And more! Here we go!

A TASTE OF ITALY IS GETTING CLOSER 🍕

What started as a plain white box is now transforming into something Main Street–worthy. The mobile food activation is almost ready to roll, with final touches underway this week.

The debut was originally planned for Labor Day, but the official launch has now been set for the weekend of September 13th.

Boerne, get ready. A whole new flavor is on the horizon. Stay tuned: next week we’ll tell you where this pizza trailer will take up residence!

259 HOME MARKET IS CLOSING FOR RETIREMENT

It’s the 3rd Shop on Main Street to Do So

Another shop on Main Street is closing it’s doors. 259 Home Market, located next to Brantley’s Bistro, is shutting its doors to begin enjoying retirement.

Currently, the entire store is 30% off (minus linens). The store will remain open through the end of September.

This follows The Red Rooster and Jac's announcements, two shops that are also on Main Street. Go bid them a fond farewell and help them clean out inventory!

The Boerne Life Finally Got New Health Insurance

Breaking news! Guess who just switched to new health insurance? ME.

That’s right, we were finally able to change insurance plans and our friend, Penn Mallery was able to work some magic. As a small business owner, we were stuck on an HMO plan which limited which doctors we could see and made us jump through hoops to get just about anything done.

But not anymore! Penn was able to build us a PPO plan (along with better dental and vision) for about the same amount we were already paying.

So yes, this is an advertisement for him, but it’s also personal testimonial. He has made our lives SO much easier now, and we’re very thankful and proud to call him our partner!

If you’ve been frustrated with high premiums or limited options, give Penn a call at (806) 368-1944 or click here to learn more.

BUC-EE’S PROJECT FACES COMMUNITY PUSHBACK

Councilman Provides More Info

After nearly a decade of planning, the proposed Buc-ee’s in Boerne is still stirring debate. At last night’s City Council meeting, 10+ residents spoke, raising concerns about traffic, safety, water use, signage, and how the project could change the small-town feel of Boerne.

Most said they aren’t against Buc-ee’s coming, but want the project handled fairly and without special treatment.

Before the meeting, Councilman Dr. Joseph Macaluso posted a detailed update on Facebook. He noted city staff have worked with Buc-ee’s to meet dark-sky lighting standards, add a 9-acre buffer with extra landscaping, and explore water recapture. He also confirmed that the taller sign approval from 2018 remains in place but that Buc-ee’s has agreed to use only one sign. A new traffic impact study is also underway and must be approved by TxDOT before major work can begin.

City officials said they plan to meet again later this week to continue addressing concerns with residents and Buc-ee’s.
