PLANNING & ZONING SAYS “NO” TO GOODWILL

Buc-ee’s Public Hearing Postponed

Monday night, we visited the P&Z meeting, where multiple people stood to voice their concerns about Goodwill coming to the Live Oak Shopping Center off North Main Street.

While the project’s representatives described Goodwill as a community-focused organization, many local business owners and nonprofit leaders expressed concern about the negative impact the store could have on existing local thrift shops and charitable efforts. They argued that the arrival of a large corporate operation like Goodwill could redirect vital donations and sales revenue away from organizations that keep all their funds and services local.

Some also pointed out Goodwill’s limited involvement in recent Hill Country flood relief efforts, an absence that stood in contrast to other area nonprofits that were immediately on the ground with supplies, volunteers, and support.

Several voiced concerns that the project felt too corporate and misaligned with the character of Main Street and the city’s Master Plan.

The Commission voted almost unanimously to deny the SUP (it received one vote in favor of approval) citing concerns that it didn't meet all the criteria of Boerne's Master Plan. The issue will go to City Council next with a stamp of P&Z denial.

In other news, Buc-ee’s rezoning request for an additional parking lot was taken off the agenda and will be addressed at a later date.

A MESSAGE FROM CLEARVIEW BOOKKEEPING

We asked our partners if they had anything they’d like to share regarding the ongoing tragedy along the river. Here’s a special message from our friends at ClearView Bookkeeping.

“Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastating floods impacting our beloved Hill Country and surrounding communities. This is home for many of us—our neighbors, friends, and family. Some of our own ClearView families have been directly affected, and some are bravely serving on the front lines from San Angelo to Kerrville, helping with recovery.

In moments like these, we are reminded of the incredible strength and resilience of our region. The business owners and community leaders we work alongside every day are stepping up in remarkable ways—proving that in Texas, we take care of our own.

Our ClearView team, believes in the power of unity, service, and community. We are lifting our neighbors in prayer and standing ready to support in any way we can. This is why we love being part of this community: because when disaster strikes, the heart of the Hill Country shines through.

Ways to help:

  • Temporary Fosters - Animal shelters in the Hill Country and surrounding areas have taken in misplaced animals. Volunteers are needed for temporary fosters of these animals.

  • Donations - Both monetary and physical donations are needed as some have lost everything. Churches, GoFundMe, and Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, among many others, are collecting donations for victims of the floods.

To all those impacted—you are not alone. And to those serving—THANK YOU, you are the hands and feet of hope in this crisis.”

HELP NEEDED FOR PETS AFFECTED BY THE FLOOD đŸ¶

Displaced Pets & Owner Surrenders at KCAS

The Kendall County Animal Shelter is now seeing an influx of displaced pets and owner surrenders following last week’s flooding. They’re asking for help from the community to support these animals during a time of crisis.

How you can help:

  • Donate dry dog or cat food (drop it off at the shelter)

  • Volunteer to bathe dogs before they head to rescue

  • Spread the word to families in need—those struggling to care for pets can contact the shelter for help with food and supplies

Several incredible rescues are stepping up to pull animals, including Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter & Clinic, Austin Pets Alive!, and Footbridge Foundation. Let’s keep the momentum going.
