🐾 IN MEMORY OF POLICE K9 CHICO

Memorial Held This Past Monday

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of K9 Chico, who was killed in the line of duty last week. Chico was more than a police dog — he was a protector, a partner, and a beloved member of the Boerne community.

On Monday, law enforcement agencies from across the region gathered for a touching Honor Walk and escort in Chico’s memory.

The Boerne Police Department has set up a memorial table in their lobby for those wishing to leave cards or messages. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boerne Police Foundation in Chico’s honor.

Rest easy, Chico. You served with courage, and you’ll be remembered with love. 🖤🐾

THROWBACK THURSDAY

From 1978 to 2019, Crusaders Hall stood in Boerne’s Flats neighborhood as a hub for celebrations, mentorship, and civic pride. It was constructed with donated materials and volunteer labor. It hosted everything from weddings to fundraisers, and became a symbol of the community’s dedication to service.

The Boerne Crusaders Club, formed in 1969, did more than build a hall—they built opportunity. From creating sidewalks and sponsoring youth events to awarding scholarships, they shaped lives and left a lasting impact.

When the club disbanded in 2019, they gifted their endowment to SAM’S Kids Student Foundation to continue the mission—supporting at-risk Boerne students with scholarships and resources. Though the building is gone, the spirit of the Crusaders lives on.

Right now, our friends at 28 Songs Brewhouse have a Crusaders Kolsch on tap, with $1 of every beer sold being donated to SAM'S Kids to honor their legacy.
