THROWBACK THURSDAY: BOERNE HISTORY
While St. Peter was the first church in the area, St. Helena's was the first built in the then city limits. ⛪
The first Episcopal worship service in Kendall County was held in the Old Kuhfuss Hall in Boerne in 1873. St. Helen’s congregation was organized by Bishop R.W.B. Elliott in 1881, and a small wooden church structure was erected, which is shown in this old photo.
By 1929 the need for a new church had arisen. The original wooden building was razed to make room for a new limestone sanctuary. Later additions have included educational and office facilities.

DID YOU KNOW?
Dr. Ferdinand Herff performed the first cataract surgery in the area on an Indian Chief. The Chief then protected the Herff family residence in Boerne from Indian raids as thanks for saving his sight.
