BOERNE BEHIND THE SCENES

City Council Discusses Community Survey Results

Last night at the City Council meeting, the City Manager kicked off a new series for 2025 called “Boerne Listens.” During this segment throughout this year, he will discuss how they are addressing feedback from the Community Survey we filled out during 2024.

During this meeting, he gave an overview of the Community Survey results to get started. In particular, survey respondents’ view of our town imporived, with more people saying they’d tell their friends to move here, and more people saying our town is better than surrounding towns.

The survey highlighted that some of the most important issues that we feel the city needs to improve on are:

  • manage traffic congestion

  • manage growth

  • protect water

Respondents expressed satisfaction in the library, fire department, and beautification efforts.

You can see survey results and info here.

WHERE WERE WE WEDNESDAY 📸

It’s Wednesday, so who knows where we were and what the significance of this building is? You can find the answer in The Boerne Bonus section below! 👇

THE BOERNE BONUS

  • Park Lighting Upgrades
The Boerne City Council approved $800,000 for lighting upgrades at Northrup Park Adult Softball Field and City Park Soccer Field, with construction set to begin in two months.

  • Staffel Building
The picture in Where Were We Wednesday is Cielo Mercantile off Main Street, which is located in the historic Staffel building. German immigrant August Staffel arrived in Texas in 1852 and in due course made his way to Boerne, where he purchased property at this site in 1854.
When Boerne was granted a postal station in 1856, Staffel served as first postmaster and housed the post office on his property. Staffel's other businesses included the Staffel store, stagecoach office, saloon, livery stable and wagon yard. After August's death in 1870, his wife, Bertha, operated the post office out of the Staffel store until 1881 and sold the property in 1905.
