Birding in Boerne might be one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to connect with nature. We live in the perfect spot for it, have plenty of local resources and natural areas. You can even get started in our own backyards.

With that in mind, we talked with two people who know the local bird scene inside and out: Kyle Odom, owner of the Wild Birds Unlimited shop on North Main Street, and Patti Roetman, who has run A Little Nature Store in Boerne for decades. Between them, they’ve introduced countless locals to the joy of birdwatching, whether in backyards or on the trail.

Here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Trusted Childcare at Your Fingertips: Get One Free Month with Promo Code: BOERNELIFE

If you’re like us, it can be hard to know where to turn when you need a babysitter. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Time Out Sitters, who has been helping busy parents find dependable, vetted sitters for over 12 years.

Owned by Boerne resident Katie and her lifelong best friend Tiffany, Time Out Sitters is built on trust, safety, and relationships. Every sitter goes through a thorough vetting process that includes background checks, CPR/First Aid certification, childcare references, and in-depth interviews. We even know a local church that uses their network when volunteer spots in children’s ministry go unfilled.

With more than 8,000 families served and 150+ certified sitters, their mission is simple: safe, flexible, and convenient childcare so you can enjoy your time out knowing your kids are in good hands.

Want to go out to eat with the kids in tow? We've rounded up a list of 13 spots you can take the kids and make sure they aren't bored, including Chilito's Express, which most people don't know has a hidden playground out back! You also might not know that Chilito’s Express has amazing tamales and poblano queso… I like the cream cheese jalapeno tamales.

THE BOERNE BUZZ

Deadline Extended: Community Cookbook Fundraiser

There’s still time to get your recipes (or artwork) into the Love Kendall County Kids Community Cookbook. The deadline has been extended to October 15.

Proceeds from the cookbook will fund programs that fight childhood hunger and provide essentials like food, beds, school supplies, and shoes for local kids.

If you’ve got a family recipe worth sharing, this is your chance to support a great cause.

There’s been a lot of chatter in Texas about hemp, CBD, and THC — and a fair amount of confusion too. Our partners at Nature’s Presence put together a straightforward ā€œHemp 101ā€ guide to help separate fact from fiction.

From explaining what hemp actually is, to what products are legal in Texas, to what you should look for on a label, this article covers the basics in plain language.

THINGS TO DO TODAY

This section is sponsored today by INFINITI of Boerne. Their brand new, fully redesigned 2026 QX60 has arrived, and you’re going to want to give it a test drive. How do we know? We took one on our recent Bastrop daytrip (more on that later). You can learn more here.

WEATHER FORECAST

THROWBACK THURSDAY

A little over a decade ago, Veterans Plaza looked quite different without the Walk of Honor. In fact, as you can see here, there used to be a Farmers Market there on Saturdays. We now have two farmers markets in town: one on Tuesdays at Old City Hall and one on Saturdays at Herff Farm. Incidentally, this Saturday the Farmers market will not be happening.
