Here’s Why It’s Not That Simple

At this week’s City Council meeting, staff addressed a growing concern from the community: ā€œCan’t we just pause new development?ā€

In short: no, not legally.

Planning Director Nathan Crane explained that Texas law only allows a temporary halt (called a ā€œmoratoriumā€) under very specific conditions, such as shortages in water, sewer, or roads. Boerne currently doesn’t meet that threshold, and many projects under construction today were approved years ago—before the city adopted more stringent development standards.

A 9-FOOT STATUE IS NOW ON MAIN STREET

By the Artist Responsible for the 33-Foot Tall Christ in Sedona

Boerne has a new artistic landmark. A 9-foot-tall bronze sculpture titled ā€œMan in the Mazeā€ by world-renowned artist James N. Muir was just installed in the new sculpture garden in front of The Shoppes at 222.

The piece draws on Native American symbolism to reflect life’s journey, self-discovery, and truth. It’s a powerful addition to the Hill Country Mile—just steps away from Main Plaza—and a major moment for Boerne’s growing public art scene.

Want to meet the artist? James N. Muir will be in town this weekend for Texas Treasures Co.’s 15th Anniversary Spring Art Show, along with over 30 other acclaimed artists. The free, family-friendly event includes live demos, artist tents, food, drinks, and more across multiple venues downtown.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

Check out this throwback to the Boerne Swimming Pool in the 1960s! Located above Cibolo Creek at the west end of Main Plaza, this spot was a great summer hangout.

During the early days of Berges Fest, the pool even hosted synchronized swimming demonstrations!

While the pool was eventually filled in, there’s talk of turning the area into a water feature and splash pad—though no details on if or when this will happen.

🚧 Kinder Park Is Closed Today… New Restrooms Being Installed

Big news: the long-awaited restrooms are finally being installed! The playground is closed during installation, and the giant hill slide is also currently out of commission due to a part that needs replacing. No word yet on when it will reopen, but this is still a big step forward for one of Boerne’s favorite parks.
